Royal Albert Hall

Following construction of extensive underground facilities, the South Steps were reconstructed and planting to either side was recreated on what is in effect a roof garden.

From Prince Consort Road, one climbs the broad central steps  enclosed by the trees and by planting which will be rich in flower, foliage and scent.  At the top of these steps the character changes: the 'transepts' lead off to left and right, marked by cherry trees, and the steps divide to pass on either side of the statue, flanked by the 'parterre' panels.  This upper half is really a piazza on a change of level, the start of the space around the Royal Albert Hall.
