Colvin and Moggridge were commissioned to prepare an outline design in support of a new community sports facility in Leyton, east London.
The Landscape Strategy aims to create a park setting for the sport and community facility designed by Penoyre & Prasad Architects. On a site where there was little available ground space, our strategy aimed to deliver the illusion of a park by utilising trees rather than extensive areas of grass.
Views into the site from the surroundings were framed by trees, ensuring that buildings and fences would not dominate the site.
Sensitive and imaginative handling of level changes was critical to the successful integration of pitches into this sloping site. A landscape of terraced planes blurs the distinction between pitch and landscape and emphasizes the level changes across the site to dramatic effect.
