GERALD DURRELL WILDLIFE TRUST.
In 1993 we won a design competition for a new enclosure for Sumatran Orang-Utans at Jersey Zoo. The design involved extensive earthworks to develop a series of island habitats surrounded by water. A small central viewing island put the visitors at the heart of the enclosure surrounded by the Orang-Utans’ home habitat. Following the success of this project we prepared a general masterplan for the zoo's future development identifying opportunities for the improvement and expansion of the zoo's infrastructure.
In 1999 'First Impressions' was completed; a major new enclosure for South American species. Located near the zoo entrance this project included a larger entrance court with a fine sculpture of Gerald Durrell, and reorganised the visitor circulation around the zoo.
Our involvement with the zoo has continued, the most recent project being the redevelopment of the central valley watercourse involving environmental improvement and nature habitat creation.
