Colvin and Moggridge worked closely with MacCormac Jamieson Prichard Architects throughout the evolution of the project to achieve perfect integration of building, landscape and external functions and to exploit the site’s location on the edge of Coventry’s built-up area, facing south over open country.
Conceived in layers or parallel bands of differing character, the spaces pass from romantic free-form at the southern boundary, overlooked by villa-like buildings, to a dense urban form towards the north. Internal courtyard gardens are defined by linear buildings and framework planting but are given varied characteristics from space to space. Running water links gardens and culminates at a small lake with associated waterside planting. A roof garden built over the swimming pool gives extensive views over the site and the countryside beyond.
